In short

  • The Overload method is about progressive build-up: the load grows with what your body can handle.
  • T.O.P. Trainer A is Overload Worldwide's main certification, completed in May 2024.
  • Mylogenics is the diagnostic and recovery branch of the same organisation, and it is part of the same programme.
  • Progressive build-up matters most after 40: you do not reverse muscle loss of 3-8% per decade with movement alone.

What is the Overload Worldwide method?

A Dutch training institute for personal trainers, physiotherapists and health professionals. Based in The Hague, active internationally, for more than ten years.

The Overload method rests on two connected pillars. The first is T.O.P. Trainer A, the main module, where the founders of Overload Worldwide share everything they developed in their work with a number of Olympic athletes among others. It is not a shallow introductory course. It is the complete practical framework for building tailored training programmes.

The second pillar is Mylogenics, Overload Worldwide's own methodology brand. It consists of three modules, Activation, Release and Rehab, which together form the Mylogenics package. These modules cover the physiotherapeutic side of the work: neuromuscular assessment, release techniques for adhesions in muscle, fascia and nerve tissue, and active rehabilitation protocols. A fully Overload-trained coach can therefore deliver both the training and the injury prevention side.

Why this matters after 40: the method individualises by nature. No standard plans are handed out, and the starting point is that every client has their own biomechanics, recovery curve and goal. If your body is shifting hormonally or functionally, whether that is perimenopause, weight or earlier injuries, that is not a luxury but a necessity.

Why this method works well after 40

Three reasons why a T.O.P. Trainer A in Haarlem produces a different result than a standard PT qualification.

1

Individual build-up

Not a plan that works for 30 people at once. The Overload method starts from zero, based on the assessment, at a pace that suits this client's capacity and recovery curve. After 40, where recovery time is a variable, that means less risk of overtraining and injury.

2

Training and recovery joined up

The combination of T.O.P. Trainer A and Mylogenics means training and recovery are not treated separately. If a shoulder holding tension needs a release technique, that happens during the session. No extra appointments with a physiotherapist. That speeds progress up.

3

Built on evidence, not on trends

Overload Worldwide has existed for more than ten years and has built an international reputation, including in elite sport. The methods are not set by what is popular on Instagram, but by what demonstrably works. If you want premium coaching without the hype, that gives you something solid.

How Remko applies the Overload method in Haarlem

Theory is half of it. Applying it to this client in this session is the other half. Here is what that looks like in practice.

A new client always begins with a thorough intake conversation and a baseline measurement. In the first sessions the emphasis is not on heavy lifting or cardio but on assessment: how does this person move, where is tension held, which muscle groups are not doing what they should? That is the Activation module from the Mylogenics package applied directly.

Then the training programme is built. For most clients over 40 that means a combination of fundamental strength exercises, squats, deadlifts, rows and pressing in a safe variation, alongside stability and mobility work. Progression is planned and measured, not guessed. Regular progress measurements of body composition, strength and circumferences make visible what is objectively happening.

If a complaint appears, a shoulder holding tension or a back that feels "short" for a few days, a release technique or rehab protocol is available within the same session. No "pop over to the physio and come back in two weeks". That is the difference between a qualification covering only the training side and one with Mylogenics built in.

Nutrition is integrated in every Overload programme. Not as a separate diet sheet, but as support for your training, with protein first, sensible timing and a smart approach to carbohydrates, which is what makes physical progress possible.

About the coach

Remko Opdam, certified T.O.P. Trainer A with Overload Worldwide

Remko Opdam, T.O.P. Trainer A

I have been a certified T.O.P. Trainer A with Overload Worldwide since 2024. I completed the full Mylogenics package, Activation, Release and Rehab, in the same year.

What makes the difference day to day: instead of training alone I offer an integrated approach. A client who arrives with back trouble can train, because we handle the release side within the session. A client who wants to lose weight does not get a standard plan but a programme built around what their body can handle.

My work is with people over 40 in Haarlem and the surrounding area, men and women who notice they need a different game plan than the one that worked twenty years ago. Sessions take place at SportCity Haarlem Raaks.

Frequently asked questions, the Overload method

What is the Overload Worldwide method?
Overload Worldwide is a Dutch training institute for personal trainers, physiotherapists and health professionals, based in The Hague and active internationally. The method consists of a main certification, T.O.P. Trainer A, plus three additional modules under the name Mylogenics: Activation, Release and Rehab. At its core it is about building strength training the right way for different groups of people, combined with evidence-based recovery and injury prevention protocols. I chose this training because generic PT certifications teach you how to coach an exercise, but not how to build a complete individual programme that accounts for age, recovery capacity and specific goals such as protecting muscle through the menopause. The course is intensive and practical, with a lot of attention for real cases rather than theory from a book. For me that was a deliberate choice alongside the standard PT basics.
What does T.O.P. Trainer A actually involve?
T.O.P. stands for the integrated approach Overload Worldwide teaches: how to build a complete, optimal training programme for every client. It is the main module, where the founders of Overload Worldwide share the methods they developed themselves, partly through work with Olympic athletes. The A marks the entry level of the system, with B and C as deeper levels. I obtained this certification in May 2024 with Overload Worldwide and have applied the principles daily in every programme since, from the very first intake through to the build-up of weight and repetitions across weeks and months. Part of the system is reviewing regularly whether the programme still matches where your body stands, rather than leaving a plan untouched for years on end. In practice we revisit that every few weeks, using your own measurements rather than a fixed calendar, so the programme keeps matching the body you have now.
Why is this better than a standard personal trainer qualification?
Standard PT qualifications in the Netherlands teach you how to instruct exercises safely. That is a baseline, not a specialism. The Overload method builds on top of it: how to design training plans that account for individual biomechanics, how to work deliberately on muscle groups that lag behind hormonally or functionally, and how to combine that with recovery protocols that keep clients out of overtraining and injury. For people over 40, where recovery and specific muscle mass goals are central, that difference is large. A standard plan does not look at the person in front of you. This method starts with that person, and the result is a programme that fits your body now instead of an average. You notice it most in how quickly a complaint is spotted and worked around. It also shows in the first sessions, which go into assessment rather than straight into loading weight.
Does the Overload method work for women over 40?
Yes, and for them in particular. The method works well for women over 40 because it starts from individual build-up rather than standard plans. A 45-year-old woman in perimenopause has a different capacity for load, a different hormonal context and a different recovery curve than a 25-year-old athlete. The Overload method is built for exactly that kind of individualisation. For women over 40 the emphasis is usually on protecting muscle mass, building bone density and respecting recovery. That is precisely where generic gym plans fall short: they are designed for an average 25-year-old, not for a body that responds differently to the same training because of hormonal change. Women who previously followed a standard plan and saw little progress often find that this individualisation is what makes the difference. It is not about training as though you were 25, but about training the way your body works and recovers today. Dedicated page for women over 40 →
What is the relationship between Overload Worldwide and Mylogenics?
Mylogenics is Overload Worldwide's own methodology, described as the institute's flagship. It has existed for more than ten years and covers three modules: Activation, Release and Rehab. A trainer who has completed the full Overload programme, T.O.P. Trainer A plus the three Mylogenics modules, has command of both the training methodology and the recovery and injury prevention side. That is exactly the combination I apply: not only knowing how to make someone stronger, but also how to resolve the complaints that otherwise get in the way of training. This combination is relatively rare in the industry, where many trainers focus on one side or the other. For clients it means concretely that an injury or a complaint does not automatically mean stopping. We look together at what is possible, which usually means adjusting the exercise, the range or the load rather than removing the movement from your programme. Dedicated page on Mylogenics →
Can I start a programme straight away, or do I have to try it first?
If you are just starting out, or want to feel whether the method suits you, there is the Introduction package: 6 sessions in 6 weeks for €499. You can move on to a 17-week programme afterwards. If you already know that one-to-one coaching in this form is the right choice, you can start straight away with Foundation, Transformation or Intensive. During the free intake we work out which route fits. Neither route is better in itself. It is about which step feels logical given your doubts, your experience and how clear you already are about what you want. Both routes lead to the same individual approach, only the pace of stepping in differs. Anyone who would rather feel how the sessions work before committing longer usually picks the Introduction. Whichever route you take, the intake itself is free and puts no obligation on you at all.

How the programme works

From first conversation to measurable result, in fixed steps.

  1. Free intake. We talk through your goal or complaint, the rhythm of your week and what did and did not work before. You get a reply within one working day.
  2. Testing and baseline measurement. The Activation tests show which muscle groups are doing their share and which are lagging behind, and we record your starting point: strength, body composition and how you feel.
  3. A programme built for you. Your training and nutrition are built around your starting point and your diary, not around a standard template.
  4. Train and adjust. Every session is one to one. Where tension or restricted movement shows up, we use Release techniques and then carry on with the training.
  5. Measure and extend. Along the way we measure again. After 17 weeks the programme continues in 4-week blocks, or you scale back to maintenance.
The minimum starting period is 4 months, after which you can cancel monthly. The results guarantee applies if you attend at least 80% of your sessions and follow the nutrition plan.
